Tour Hong Kong | A Travel Through Time On A Hong Kong City Tour The Central Business District (CBD) in Hong Kong was not always as big and crowded as it is nowadays. When the British landed in 1841 at Possession Point in Sheung Wan – which you can visit on your Hong Kong private tours – they decided to build a city on the north coast of Hong Kong Island, and the present-day Central was chosen to house major military facilities and an administrative centre. On our Hong Kong private tours you can visit the initial CBD that was located between Garden Road and Wellington Street. Ask your private tour guide Hong Kong to show you the east of Central Market where the headquarters of foreign investors and bankers were, while the Chinese merchants would settle down to the west of the CBD. You can visit those places your Hong Kong walking tours. #homekong #wanderlust #discoverhongkong #instacool #photooftheday #bbctravel #hongkong #china #hk #instatravel #adventure #welltraveled #tourism #travelbug #condenast #lonelyplanet #hellohongkongtours #hellohk #ilovehk #hongkongtour #cnntravel #homekong #privatetour #personaltour #tourguide #privateguide #personalguide #hkhistory #hongkonghistory #cbd #centralbusinessdistrict #centralhonkong #hongkongcentral photo credit: discover hong kong, deutschland funkkultur
All of our tours are walking tours and by their nature involve quite a lot of walking! Even when we are using the public transport system, there is still a fair bit of walking involved. We do schedule in rest breaks and toilet stops, but you should be prepared to spend the majority of the duration of your tour either walking or standing. You should also be aware that Hong Kong is a hilly city and there will be a fair bit of up and down either via steps or steep slopes. If you have health or mobility issues, you should book a private tour so that we can plan a route and itinerary for you which is appropriate for your needs. All of our Hong Kong tours are designed for enjoyment, and we do go at a leisurely pace, (believe us we don’t want to be rushing around anymore then you do), so as long as you are in reasonable health, you shouldn’t have any problems with the amount of walking involved.
Unfortunately, our Hong Kong tours are not wheelchair friendly. This is because the routes we take, involve going up and down some steep slopes, using stairs and riding on the local tram which is not wheelchair accessible. If you are in a wheelchair, please consider taking a private tour with us, and we will design a route for you that is wheelchair friendly.
All of our tours, except the Hong Kong Rooftop Bar Tour and Hong Kong Tram Party, are child-friendly and the kids that have been out with us have always enjoyed themselves. That said the routes are not pushchair/pram friendly so if you are bringing children with you, they do need to be old enough to walk and to be in a group environment for the duration of the walking tour. We have lower priced tickets available for children (under 15 years) on most tours.
All of our Hong Kong tours are conducted in English. We are not able to offer any more languages at the moment
Our Hong Kong tours last between 6 and 6 hours. Please refer to the information on each tours specific page to find out the duration of the tour that you are interested in.
Having been on tours ourselves where we have been taken to all manner of shops where there has been an eagerly waiting sales assistant ready to try and pressurise us into buying something which we do not need or want we can understand the concern around this. We do not visit any such shops on any of our Hong Kong tours. Furthermore, the bars and restaurants which we use have been selected solely because we think they are the best that Hong Kong has to offer and not for any other reason. We do not take commissions or kickbacks from any of them. If you do want to do some shopping we are happy to make recommendations for you however you will have to wait until the end of the tour to do your shopping, as there will not be time to do it on the route.
The costs of any transport (MTR / tram’s / taxi’s / boats and ferries etc.) used during the tour are not included in the fee schedule and are payable by yourself – these costs are minimal. The costs of drinks/ snacks/ meals/souvenirs etc. are similarly not included. If you want to stop off at a convenience store and buy yourself a drink or snack, then this is of course at your own expense. If you are on the bar tour and want a second drink in any of the bars, then this is also at your own cost.
If you have dietary restrictions, the best thing to do is to send us an email letting us know what you can not eat, and we will advise you on how much of the food we try contains ingredients that you can not eat. If it’s only a little bit, we will recommend coming on the Hong Kong food tour, and we will let you know what to avoid. If you are heavily affected, we will advise you not to take this food tour, or to come with us free of charge if the rest of your family/friends are joining us. If you choose the second option, you will most likely get food envy though!
We do not take people to places like Disney Land or Ocean Park because we would not be able to add any value to your day. To put it simply you would be wasting your money if you hired us to take you to a theme park. Instead, we focus on introducing you to the real Hong Kong, by taking you down back streets and alleyways which you wouldn’t usually go down yourself, by explaining the culture, the history and the way of life to you. All of these big attractions are easy to get to, your hotel will be able to explain to you how to get there on public transport which is very efficient and straightforward to use. If you don’t fancy public transportation, you can take a taxi, which is very cheap in Hong Kong.
We also like a Big Bus tour and think that they give you a good feel of the geography and layout of the city and ensure that you ‘see’ all of the main points of interest in a day. Hop on hop off also gives you a great way of travelling between points of interest without having to worry about getting lost on public transport! What the Big Bus tour will not do however is show you the ‘real’ Hong Kong. It will not take you to meet local business owners or to discover hidden parks down alleyways. It will not explain the culture of Hong Kong to you, or point out hole-in-the-wall restaurants that surprisingly have Michelin stars! If you like Big Bus tours then take one in Hong Kong (we have, and we enjoyed it) but take a tour with us as well and let us introduce you to a few places that the Big Bus tour will not.
We do not currently do tours to either Macau or Mainland China, these locations are not our area of expertise, and you could find somebody who is much more knowledgeable then we are.
Of course! We get countless guests joining us who live in Hong Kong. Many people take one or two of our tours as a way to get acquainted with Hong Kong when they have recently moved here. We also find that our Hong Kong Historical Tour gets a fair few people. These maybe have been in Hong Kong for about a year, and got to know their way around Hong Kong pretty well, know all of the bars, restaurants and beaches but haven’t necessarily had the opportunity to learn about the story of Hong Kong and how the country came to be as it is.
Deciding which tour
No, all of our Hong Kong tours have different content so you do not have to worry about hearing the same information twice. We do cover a few basic facts about Hong Kong on each tour but the vast majority of the content is different. In fact we recommend taking more then one Hong Kong tour to give you a real insight into Hong Kong.
Booking your tour
Please send us an email detailing the date(s) which you would like to take your tour and we will come back to you with our availability.
Yes you can. We use PayPal to give our guests a secure why to pay online but you do not need a PayPal account to pay.
Once you have booked a Hello Hong Kong tour you will receive an email confirming all of the details of your tour. This will include a reminder on what to wear and details, including a map, of the meeting point. It will also include our contact details should you have any issues on the day.
Going on your tour
On all tours you should wear comfortable flat shoes. In the winter months when it is cool we recommend that you wear layers so that you can take one off if you start to heat up whilst walking. In the summer months it is very humid so wear light-weight clothes. If you are joining the Victoria Peak Hike we recommend that you wear sports clothes (leggings or shorts) or loose fitting trousers. We do not recommend doing the walk in jeans at any time of year. Trainers are a must for the Peak Hike. If you are joining the Hong Kong Rooftop Bar tour then you must wear smart casual clothes. This means no flip-flops and no shorts for guys. Girls be aware that there is still a lot of walking in this tour so don’t wear high heals unless you feel confident that you can walk a couple of miles in them! If you are joining the Hong Kong Tram Party we recommend that you wear flat shoes as the tram does start and stop a lot and we don’t want you falling over! Girls you may want to pack a pair of heals for the after party in Lan Kwai Fong. The tram is open top and it can get a little cold in winter so bring a jacket or jumper.
The main thing you need to bring is yourself in a good pair of comfortable shoes! We recommend that you bring some cash in case you want to stop off and buy a drink from a convenience store, and your camera to take pictures. If it looks like it might rain bring an umbrella, your hotel should be able to lend you one, if not we can show you where to buy one cheaply.
We actively encourage picture taking on Hello Hong Kong tours, we want you to go home with as many memories as possible. We are always happy to take pictures of you for you.
Come rain or sunshine our walking tours continue and we always have a great day no matter what the weather. However if there is a Typhoon or extreme rain then we follow the advice issued by the Hong Kong weather observatory. This means that we cancel all tours if at one hour before the start of the tour there is a Typhoon level 8 signal up or there is Red or Black rainstorm warning in effect. In such cases we will reschedule your tour or offer a full refund. All tours will still run at Typhoon levels 1 and 3 and under Amber rainstorm warnings. For up to date information on Hong Kong weather you can check the Hong Kong Observatory website.
Hong Kong is an extremely safe country. Carrying an expensive camera or wearing an expensive watch / jewelry will not increase your chances of getting robbed. Even if you are walking around at night time on your own! The only nuisance to be aware of is pick pockets on crowed trains and is busy markets. I have never been pick pocketed in Hong Kong and I do not know anyone who has but I do know that it does happen so be aware.
If you have a booked a Private Tour we will come and pick you up at your hotel and drop you off there at the end of the tour. If you have booked onto a Small Group Tour it will not start and end in the same place. Once the tour has finished we can give you directions back to your hotel or to any other location that you would like to go to. We recommend always carrying a few cards with your hotel name and address on as this will make it easier to take a taxi. Once you have booked your tour we will email you directions to the meeting point.
If you have enjoyed the Hello Hong Kong tour and think that the guide has provided a good service it is common practice in Hong Kong to tip. The standard tipping is 10 – 15%. Whilst our guides greatly appreciate gratuities they will NEVER ask for them.
The best way to contact us is via email at email@example.com We respond to all emails within 24 hours at the most. You can also phone us on (852) 970 44108 but be aware that we do not answer the phone if we are out on tour so we suggest that you email us in the first instance.

Hong Kong Walking Tours | Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! 中秋快乐! If you are on a Hong Kong city tour this time of the year, you will see that everybody is very excited as it is time for our Mid-Autumn Festival. The festival celebrates three fundamental concepts that are closely connected: Gathering, such as family and friends coming together, or harvesting crops for the festival. It’s said the moon is the brightest and roundest on this day which means family reunion. And this is the main reason why people think mid-autumn is important. If you go to a restaurant on your Hong Kong private tours, you will see they are busier than usual. Thanksgiving, to give thanks for the harvest, or for harmonious unions. Praying (asking for conceptual or material satisfaction), such as for babies, a spouse, beauty, longevity, or for a good future. Traditions and myths surrounding the festival are formed around these concepts, although traditions have changed over time due to changes in technology, science, economy, culture, and religion. It’s about well being together. Ask your private tour guide Hong Kong to show you the best place to look for the dragon dance on a tour Hong Kong. #instagood #photooftheday #hongkong #china #hk #lonelyplanet #hellohongkongtours #ilovehk #hellohk #hkfestivals #culture #midautumnfestival #harvesfestival #thanksgiving #moonfestival #lantern #gods #mooncake photo credit: scmp
Hong Kong Private Tours | The Beautiful Peninsula Hotel The flagship of “The Peninsula Hotels” opened its door in 1928 and is a treasure of historical happenings. Definitely worth the visit on Hong Kong walking tours. For example, in 1941, at the end of the Battle of Hong Kong, Sir Mark Aitchison Young, surrendered in person at the Japanese headquarters on the third floor of The Peninsula. The Governor was confined for two months in one of the hotel suites before being transferred to a prison in Shanghai. The rooms were then reserved for Japanese officers and high-ranking dignitaries, while Hong Kong sank into misery and destitution. Your private tour guide Hong Kong will tell you this and many other stories on your Hong Kong city tour. Your Hong Kong private tours come with a customised itinerary. So, don’t forget to add the Peninsula Hotel on your tour Hong Kong! #design #thepeninsula #photooftheday #hongkong #china #hk #lonelyplanet #hellohongkongtours #ilovehk #hellohk #streetsofhongkong #wanderlust #buildings #hklife #wanderlust #homekong #peninsula #kowloon #privatetour #citytour #customizedtour #history #majestic #iconic #hkhistory
