Ho Hung Kee (Causeway Bay)

No discussion about Hong Kong’s historic noodle shops would be complete without mentioning Ho Hung Kee, an authentic Hong Kong-style congee and noodle shop, which originally opened in Wan Chai in the 1940s and is famed for its springy wonton noodles and fresh, sweet soup. Some highlights from the restaurant's menu include the stir-fried beef noodles, shrimp pomelo skin and wonton noodles.

Fat Boy

This shop is operated by the son of the famous “Fei Jie”, owner of the popular local snack joint in Mong Kok. Their braised skewers are flavourful, which cuttlefish, pork liver, turkey gizzard, and pork intestine are recommended.

Mak Man Kee

No one is here for the no-frills interior, typical of any noodle shop in Hong Kong. This 60-year-old establishment is all about Cantonese wonton soup noodles – firm and bouncy prawns, visible through the paper-thin translucent skin, with springy duck egg noodles swimming in a flavourful broth. The serving size isn’t the most filling so you may want to order their pork knuckles braised in red taro curd on the side.

Signature dish: Shrimp Wonton Noodles which the soup is boiled for 5 hours.

Hong Kong milk tea is a famous must drink beverage for all tourists and locals alike. A tea drink made from black tea and evaporated milk that you can drink hot or cold at any time of the day!. We have researched the ingredients for you and we hope that this helps you quench your thirst!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 bags of Lipton Yellow Label tea

  • Water to boil

  • Any evaporated milk of your choice (Black&white for a HK style feel)

PROCEDURE

  • Heat the water into the kettle

  • pour the boiling water into your mug with the 2 bags of Lipton Tea and let it sit for 45minutes.

  • add 2 1/4 tablespoons of evaporated milk to the tea and supplement that with 2 tablespoons of condensed milk.

  • Once you put the milk and the tea, think of Dory (Finding Nemo) and just keep stirring stirring stirring until you see that the milk is completely dissolved.

Optional: you can keep the tea bag into the mug to get the fuller thicker tea texture or you can remove it before you put in the milk.

Ah Chun Shandong Dumpling

The shop has a traditional feel to it after renovation. Green wooden window frames on the wall are reminiscent of old-time Hong Kong. Dumplings are handmade daily and only the freshest ingredients are used in the fillings. Try their most-ordered item lamb and Peking scallion dumplings. Or surprise yourself with the daily specialty, such as mackerel dumplings and cuttlefish dumplings.
